Chapter Eight: EnzymesEvery organism on the planet uses some form of energy. For many species this energy is consumed directly in the form of potential energy in sugar, made of carbon hydrogen, and oxygen. But what about indirectly? Where's the ultimate source of energy flow for open systems like living things? Through the process of photosynthesis sugar can be created, by plants, that provides energy for nearly all other organisms from the sun! Once consumed this molecule can be broken down to create ATP needed by cells to complete work through Cellular Respiration. This cycle depends on sunlight to drive photosynthesis but in turn provides energy for life on Earth.
